October 1998
Ancillary Equipment

Cutters; kneaders; inspection equipment; coolers; batch-off units. These machines are necessary in all rubber factories, but are often over-shadowed by larger, more expensive items. We look at new technologies in these areas which can help factory managers save money and improve quality.

Global Tyre Report 1998

The essential annual publication for anyone in the tyre industry. It includes: comprehensive financial data; detailed qualitative analyses on major trends; tables of quantitative data; and a comprehensive listing of every tyre plant in the world.

November 1998
Hose & Belt

After tyres, hose and belt is one of the key areas in the rubber industry; combining high-tech manufacture with efficient process design. It is a key area in rubber technology, and we track some of the latest commercial moves as well as technological developments.

December 1998
Test Equipment

As customers demand better quality and better support documentation; the role of test equipment has never been more relevant to the industry; we examine the new products and how they can help companies improve quality and provide better documentation to customers.

January 1999
Tyre reinforcement

Restructuring in the industry has combined with the introduction of new technologies to make this a dynamic area and one which is always of interest to tyre engineers and the suppliers to the tyre sector. ERJ will combine a review of recent restructuring moves with comment from industry figures on the development of this important sector.

February 1999
TPEs

With interest focussing on thermoplastic vulcanisates, there is big potential growth in the automotive sector. However, there are many appllications for these versatilematerials both within and outside the automotive industry. This month we look at potential applications and the opportunities in the TPE sector as a whole.

March 1999
Machinery

Now in its fourth year, our listing of machinery manufacturers is growing more and more comprehensive. This year, as before, we will list each company, its range of machinery, and sales data wherever possible. The listing is very useful for anyone intending to buy rubber machinery, as it emphasies regional growth patterns as well as the technology of the main mixing room and how companies can save time and money.

April 1999
Mixing room developments

The technology of the mixing room has developed strongly in recent years, with much more computerisation and increasingly, a more scientific approach to recipe development, as well as the main mixing room and how companies can save time and money.

May 1999
IRC exhibition & conference

In June, the rubber industry will meet in Manchester, UK, for the largest exhibition and conference dedicated to rubber in Europe this year. We will preview the show and list all the papers presented at the parallel conference.

June 1999
Non-tyre automotive

The automotive sector drives the rubber industry in terms of cost-down and productivity improvement. It is also by far the largest market for rubber goods. This month ERJ will examine the restructuring which is affecting this sector, and select some key application areas for an in-depth analysis to highlight key developments iin both business and technical frames.

July/August 1999
Italian survey

Italy is a centre for innovation and development in the rubber sector. With the introduction of the Euro, Italy can no longer be classed as a low wage manufacturing centre - one of its key historical advantages. ERJ will examine how the transition to a strong currency has affected the Italian rubber sector and how it is preparing for the coming millennium.

September 1999
European Tyre Report

Once again we will list the main developments in the European tyre industry, listing all the factories in the region and identifying some of the key themes affecting the sector over the last year.

October 1999
Compounding

Europe's rubber industry is in transition. As pressure to reduce costs builds, every company has had to study its options for mixing rubber. Many have chosen to use custom compounders; almost all have rationalised their own compounding activity. ERJ studies the development of this vital aspect of the industry, and how current trends will affect compounders into the future.

November 1999
Hose & belt

One of the key technological sectors for the rubber industry. With technical performance requirements increasing while pressure for lower prices is intensified, the makers of hoses and belts are under constant pressure to innovate and develop new solutions to their business challenges. We try to follow the main trends and highlight interesting opportunities in this vast application sector.

December 1999
Carbon black/silica

The debate is still not over. Sillica has won a place in the recipe book, but its final position is still far from certain, as the users remain concerned over the cost of the silane modifiers and the high dispersion requirements,l meanwhile, the carbon black companies are fighting back, and producing new grades and offering better added value. ERJ will try to show how the two materials are carving their own niches in this high volume, mature market.
